From www.wikipedia.org:
Mount Diablo is a mountain in Contra Costa County, California in the San Francisco Bay Area, located south of Clayton and northeast of Danville. It is an isolated upthrust peak of 3,864 feet (1,178 m), visible from most of the San Francisco Bay Area and much of northern California.
Mount Diablo is sacred to many California Native American peoples; according to Miwok mythology and Ohlone mythology, it was the point of creation. Prior to European entry, the creation narrative varied among surrounding local groups. In one surviving narrative fragment, Mount Diablo and Reed’s Peak [Mt. Tamalpais] were surrounded by water; from these two islands the creator Coyote and his assistant Eagle-man made Indian people and the world. In another, Molok the Condor brought forth his grandson Wek-Wek the Falcon Hero, from within the mountain.

Where were these photos taken? I see crosses, hangman’s scaffolds — and more…
Walnut Grove, Ca
This house was so abstract and dramatic. I could imagine one of your characters in it…
The most poignant, for me, are the shots (2) with the chairs.
For some reason the chair and window seem cemented together.
These places have more problems than just mice! You don’t go in there by yourself, or after dark, do you?
Mike
Believe or not this is a remodeling project I found by chance
I, too, would like to know where these photos were taken and when. OUCH….
Regardless, they are fantastic, as usual…
They were taken in Walnut Grove, Ca…Sacramento Delta
These are breathtaking!
Thank you.
Nice photos… next to last is excellent.
I like this one too…something from a dream
I’m jealous. Great find. Wonderful images. Delightfully dark. Great contrasts.
You are the master of interiors…you would have a field day with this one…but it is not abandoned as it is being remodeled…
I’m looking for a studio-are any of these rooms for rent?
Perfect location for a studio with California light pouring in … We would have a new G. O’Keeffe for sure …with a twist
All really interesting, but the pic with the chair moves me greatly.
Thank you…
fantastic location! So great how you see things!
Thank you mimo.
I like the exploration of light in these!
Morning light makes for good light study…thank you.
Another great set of shots.
Thank you, notes to the milkman…
The chair image!
This one seems to resonate with people. Thank you.
Appreciate the story behind the images and I agree the white chair….makes me think…lovely post!
Thank you! I will be stopping by.
Fabulous Post Barbara. I love these very much.
The place was photogenic … Thank you, Jack Brewis.
THIS is a fixer-upper?
Mike
The crew arrived two hours later… I know, right…the house on the Delta goes on…
I can imagine an old, old woman sitting in that chair straing out of the window.
Barbaralaeka,
I am a Native American with close ties to Mt. Diable and the surrounding sacred geogrophy of the area. Myself and other scholars have been searching for the elusive Reed’s peak you refered to in your piece about the mountain. You stated your source was wikipedia, but I found no reference to Reed’s peak. Lots of people have just surmised North Peak is Reed’s peak and many have published this as fact, so my question is, did you get this from another website without any source material or did you per chance get this from oral history or an unpublished source?
Thanks for you time. Juanito.
Juanito,
As far as I remember I used wikipedia as the only source…I have not used oral or unpublished sorce…maybe wiki has edited the entry…
I wish I could be more helpful…
Thank you,
B.
Thanks for you help. As you surmised, Wiki has edited their page when challeged with their source material. Their are still a few sites still claiming Reed’s peak is either North Peak of Mount Diablo or Mount Tamalpais, but none have any original source. It has been my collaborator’s and myself’s experience that people assume and then publish their ideas as fact. Thanks again ro responding and if you could edit your post that would be even better. We’ve been researching this creation story for decades and have never found any hisoric map or reference to the location of Reed’s peak. Ciao.
