Clever…yes.
But the truth is that people here are truly being hit in depression style way…17 % unemployment rate … One of the highest in the nation.
Thank you.
Very good Maurice… You caught this….Central Valley is exact place where he placed his The Grapes of Wrath…I was having this in mind when doing this post.
This and that it is really being labeled The Appalachia of the West.
I will send you article link to the Economist.
Thank you.
Very stark images that perfectly capture the feeling of the Central Valley. While the sewing machine on that rock is interesting and I like that, I am really captivated by the last image of the pop-up trailer. Americana!
Wonderful sombre mood to all of these photos. I especially like the treatment of the sky in “The Bee” mailbox image. (i.e.You were on a journey, and that road just led you past there.)
I love that one with the sewing machine.
amazing, heavy mood. The letter box is my fave i think. beautiful black n white
I’m not seeing things? That IS a sewing machine?
(Has the cat worked her magic, yet?)
I love these pics. I grew up in Kentucky so rural anywhere always catches my eye.
=)
Your photos are so evocative of John Steinbeck–I think we have the makings of a best seller-” Of Mice And A Woman”.. give it some thought.
VERY clever, Maurice

I know you’re in Central Cal if you are reading ‘The Bee’… great shot!
Definite Steinbeck era feel to these pictures
